Privacy Policy
KutumbLekha keeps your family's financial records: money given and taken, loans, insurance, bills, documents and reminders. Those records are private, and this policy explains, in plain words, what we collect, why, who can see it, and how you stay in control. It covers the KutumbLekha apps for Android and iPhone, the web app at app.kutumblekha.com and this website.
1.What we collect
We collect only what the app needs to keep your family's records and remind you.
- Your account
- Your email address, your name, your language, and your reminder settings (which days before and what time of day).
- Records you add
- What you type into a record: names of people you gave money to or took money from, amounts, dates and interest; insurance policies with provider, policy number, premium and nominee; loans and EMIs; bills, warranties and sellers; recurring payments; reminders; notes; and contact persons with their role and phone number.
- Documents and photos
- Files you upload or scan: bills, policies, loan papers and any other document you choose to keep, such as an identity card.
- Spaces and family members
- The Spaces you create or join, each member's role, invitations (the invited person's email address), and the activity history of who added or changed what in a Space.
- Notifications
- A push token for each phone where notifications are on, so reminders reach that phone.
- Bug reports and feature requests
- What you write, the screenshots or screen recordings you attach, your email address so we can reply, and, if you leave it on, the app version, operating system and device model.
We do not collect your phone's contacts, location, SMS messages, call logs, bank account access or advertising identifiers. The apps and this website contain no advertising, analytics or tracking tools.
Kept only on your device: your 6-digit PIN and your choice of fingerprint or face unlock stay on your phone. Face and fingerprint checks are done by your phone; we never receive them. Your sign-in session is kept in the phone's secure storage, and on the web in a cookie. The web app also remembers your theme and text size in your browser.
2.How we use it
- To show your records to you and to the members of the Space they are in.
- To work out interest, EMIs, warranty dates and what is due.
- To send reminders as push notifications, and sign-in codes by email.
- To answer your questions, bug reports and feature requests.
- To keep the service secure and working, and to prevent misuse.
We do not sell your information, show you advertising, or use your records to profile you. We use your information because you asked us to keep your records, and only for that purpose.
3.Who can see your information
Your Personal Space is yours alone. A shared Space is seen by its members, according to the role its owner gives them: owners and admins manage the Space and its members, editors add and change records, and viewers only read. When you move a record into another Space, that Space's members can see the record and its documents. These rules are enforced by our database, not only by the app's screens.
People who work on KutumbLekha look at your information only when you ask for help, when it is needed to fix a problem, or when the law requires it.
We share information with the service providers below, only so they can run the service for us, and with authorities only when Indian law requires it.
4.Service providers and where data is stored
Your records, documents and account are stored in India, in Mumbai. Some providers that deliver email and notifications work from other countries.
- Supabase
- Database, sign-in, document storage and the reminder service. Mumbai, India.
- Vercel
- Runs the web app and this website. The web app's server runs in Mumbai, India.
- Resend
- Sends sign-in codes and bug report emails. United States.
- Expo, Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) and Apple (Push Notification service)
- Deliver push notifications to your phone. The notification carries the reminder's title and text.
- Zoho Mail
- Our support mailbox, for emails you send us. India.
- GitHub
- Keeps the nightly backup of the database and documents for 14 days.
5.How we protect it
- Everything travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
- Data and files are kept on encrypted storage by our providers.
- Documents are private. They open only for members of their Space, through links that expire after a short time.
- Sign-in uses a one-time code sent to your email, so there is no password to steal. On phones, a PIN or fingerprint or face unlock protects the app.
- Only a few people can reach the systems, each with two-step sign-in.
6.Notifications
Reminders can show a person's name and an amount, for example interest that is due. Your phone may show them on the lock screen. You can hide notification previews on the lock screen in your phone's settings, and turn notifications off in KutumbLekha under Settings → Notifications.
7.How long we keep it, and deleting it
We keep your information while your account exists. You can export it at any time (Settings → Export my data) and delete your account at any time (Settings → Account → Delete account).
Deleting your account:
- Deletes your account and every Space you own, with all their records and documents, at once. Their files are removed from storage within the hour.
- Deletes your bug reports and their attachments, your notification tokens and any invitations sent to your email address.
- Leaves what you added to Spaces owned by other people with that Space's owner, so their family records stay complete.
Backup copies are kept for 14 days and then deleted, so deleted information leaves the backups within 14 days. Emails you send to our support address are kept as long as needed to help you.
8.Your rights
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can:
- Ask what information we hold about you and how we use it.
- Correct or complete it. Most of it you can edit in the app yourself.
- Have it deleted, by deleting your account or by writing to us.
- Withdraw your consent, which means closing your account.
- Name a person to use these rights for you if you die or cannot act yourself.
- Complain to us, and then to the Data Protection Board of India.
Write to privacy@kutumblekha.com from your account's email address.
9.Children
KutumbLekha is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account. A family may keep records about children, such as an insurance policy, but children should not have their own accounts.
10.Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use your information, we will tell you in the app or by email before it applies.
11.Contact and grievances
For privacy questions, requests and complaints, write to our Grievance Officer at privacy@kutumblekha.com. For help with the app, write to support@kutumblekha.com or use Settings → Help & feedback.
